Vatta is a very common tree in the evergreen and semi-evergreen forests of the western ghats. They are fast growing trees with large heart shaped leaves. One of the first trees to come up on roadsides and forest clearings. Vatta is a resinous tree, to 10 m tall.
Vatta leaves are used to wrap jaggery and other sweetmeats. Also for making wooden pencils and in the plywood industry.
