Sindoor Jack is a famous jackfruit variety of Kerala. It is the sweetest ‘Varikka’ variety of jackfruit. The fruit is intensely sweet and has a pleasant aroma, the flesh is orange in color and firm. Jack Sindoor, also known by the names Chemparathy Varikka gets its name from the color of the arils- bright red as shoe flower petals . identified and promoted by Farming Systems Research Station, Sadanandapuram in Kollam District of Kerala. This variety appreciated for their taste and the soft texture. Each fruit weighs around 15 kilograms.
That is softer than red jackfruit and color almost same , name ‘chembarathi varikka ‘. In Malayalam, it is called ‘Chembaratti Chakka’ (chembaratti means hibiscus denoting red color).
CHARACTERISTICS
- Each tree bears as many as 250 large fruits.
- Fruit varies in size from 3 – 30 kg and has an oblong or round shape.
- The tree will bear fruit within 1-2 years of planting.
- Each fruit measures between 10 cm- 60 cm in length and 2.5 cm – 7.5 cm in diameter.
