Pathimugham is a small thorny tree, 6-9 m in height and 15-25 cm in trunk diameter with a few prickly branches. Leaves are double-compound, alternately arranged, Fruits are woody pods, with 3-4 seeds. It is a species of flowering tree in the legume family fabaceae. It is found all over southeast Asia and its dried hardwood has been used as a traditional ingredient to color food and beverages and as a home remedy to treat certain ailments.
